This 1935 UK Silver Threepence rests in a hand crafted setting made of recycled sterling silver wire. I make each setting by hand separately from the coin. The setting is stamped with both my maker's and metal purity (925) mark on the interior of the bail. The coin does not have a hole drilled in it or any metal soldered to it's edge. The handmade setting is connected by soldered sterling silver rings to sterling silver cable chain.
The obverse side of the coin has a portrait of King George V by Edgar Bertram MacKennal surrounded by the lettering GEORGIVS V D.G.BRITT:OMN:REX F.D.IND:IMP: George the Fifth, by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India. The reverse side, designed by George Edward Kruger Gray, features three oak sprigs interwoven with three acorns, the coin's value, and year. The metal content of the coin is .500 silver. This design was minted from 1927-1936.
Approximate Size: Length: 1.02 inches (26mm) (including bail), Width: .75 inch (19mm), Inner Dimension of Bail: .25 inch, total length: 18 inches
Karen’s designs are all handcrafted in her studio in central Virginia. Her work began as a need to create beautiful, functional objects. A research project on 19th century French silver and the recurrence of ancient motifs greatly influence her work today. Largely self-taught, Karen has taken workshops with noted metal workers in New Mexico and Virginia.
